After you have passed validation and become a Newbie in the Idena network, you now have the option to make 3 flips. They will bring you a reward at the next validation.
All the flips you are solving, during validation, were created by an existing Idena members. Try to make a good flip. Just as you wouldn't want to get a bad flip and cause a validation problem, don't cause someone else a problem and risk having your flip reported.
If you do not make flips, you will not be able to participate in the next validation, your Idena identity will be deleted, the coins from the locked (60%) and stake (20%) parts of the wallet will be burned. Later, if you decide to continue with Idena again, you will have to ask for the invitation again and everything starts from the beginning.
Making flips is not difficult, many people will find it fun. It will be more complicated in the beginning until you get the hang of it. This guide's intention is to explain to you, how to make good quality flips, because if you make bad flips, they can be reported during validation and rated as bad. A reported flip will void your entire validation reward, flips and invitations. It is very important that you create flips by following a few guidelines that we will outline here. This will avoid a reported flip, annoyance and loss of rewards.
You can make flips in the Desktop App or in the Web App. Click on the "Flips" section. The flip section will open, showing you the empty flip slots you need to make. Click on an empty flip slot or on the "New flip" button in the upper right corner.
The flip you create should represent the story shown in the 4 pictures.
Beginning > something happens > the end.
Here we got the first word Student and a closer description of this word (Pupil, learner) so that we know what exactly is meant. In case you get a word that can have a double meaning, like the word "Button", the description of the word will tell us if it means a button on clothes or say a button that can be pressed like on a joypad.
Since the words are in English, below them you have a "Google Translate" button that you can press to get a translation into your language.
Idena has a built-in system for translating these words that any member can use to contribute to the translation of words into a specific language. This translation system is only visible if you switch the App language other than English.
Right now I can't think of any story that can be made with this combination of words. It doesn't matter, Idena offers you a total of 9 pairs of words. It is up to you to choose a pair of words with which you can make a flip with a good and easy story.
Press the "Change words" button to see the next pair of words. You can freely press the "Change words" button indefinitely in order to view all pairs of words available to you.
Okay for these words I immediately got an idea for an easy story for the flip. A man fishes and catches a shark, quite simply. Let's try to do that flip. Let's go to the "Next step".
In this step, we need to find 4 images that will describe our story for the flip. Then we will insert those images into the Flip editor.
When coming up with the images you need for your flip, you can start with the key things that will make up your story and build from there.
The images we definitely need are:
- The man is fishing
- The man caught a shark
We need to come up with two more pictures to create a story with a logical beginning and end.
The easiest thing that comes to mind is for the first picture to be a man waking up, the next picture to be a picture of fishing equipment. So now we already have a designed story that should look like this:
- The man wakes up
- Fishing equipment display
- The man is fishing
- The man caught a shark
I think this is an easy story that has a logical beginning and end. I believe I can easily find suitable images to make a good flip.
It is also important when you come up with a story that you can say that it's internationaly understandable, because people from all over the world from different countries participate in Idena. If you put something in the story that is known and logical only in your country, you risk having your flip reported and losing all rewards.
The flip should not contain any letters, words or numbers that explain the action of the story/flip or that represent keywords for the story of the flip (in this case Shark / Fishermen). If you put some pictures in the flip that explain the action in words, it means that someone who receives that flip must understand that language, which again can lead to your flip being reported as bad.
A lot of times I've noticed people making two stories in one flip, two pictures for the first word, two pictures for the second word. This is of course wrong.
Also the order of the words in the flip doesn't matter. I got a few questions from people who would ask me about this flip, is it important to put the shark first and then the fisherman? Of course, it doesn't matter, it just matters that both words make up a story in a flip that has a logical plot.
There are a couple of ways we can find images for our flip, or draw them ourselves if we feel skilled enough.
My personal way is, Google image search. I save them in one folder and then insert them into the Idena flip editor.
By doing a simple search I've found the following four images. The pictures are not too small, so they won't be blurry when someone is looking at them in flip, which is also important.

The next thing we need to do is load the images into the Flip editor. By clicking on the "Select file" icon, you will get a window where you can select an image from your computer. We will add the image one by one to follow the flow of the story we want to create.
Additionally, we have tools for cropping the image (Crop) and drawing (Pencil). Drawing with a pencil is recommended in case you can't find a picture that contains everything you need to make the story of the flip logical, then you can complete the picture by drawing. Also by drawing you increase the resistance of the image to recognition by some AI or bot that will potentially try to solve the validation automatically. Project aims to prove the fact that we are humans and not bots, it is also up to us to make it even more difficult for bots to solve flips. The goal is to make a flip that is as difficult as possible for a bot and as easy as possible for a human. Also, if you have some text on the image, you can use a pencil to cross out/mask the letters.
After we have inserted all the images, we go to "Next step".
In this step we need to mix the images for the side of the flip that will not make sense to solve. My tactic is to reverse the order of the images and usually end up with a totally illogical story. So now we have:
- Caught shark
- A fishing man
- Fishing equipment
- The man is waking up
This order doesn't really make sense.
Always make sure that the jumbled sequence of images does not have a story that can also be interpreted quite clearly, i.e. as logical.
When mixing pictures, never leave the starting and last picture in the same places on the logical and illogical sides, because this can lead to a more difficult flip.
At the last step, Idena will offer us to check how the flip looks and once again introduce us to the keywords.
Don't submit flips that you aren't sure are good before consulting with someone who already has experience making flips. When you submit a flip it will be recorded on the Idena network, in case you later change your mind and want to delete the flip to fix it, it will cost you about 2-3 iDNA coins. Why is there a charge for deleting flips? In order to increase the security of the network, that is, to reduce the possibility of spamming the network with transactions to delete flips.
So let's check a few things:
✅ The keywords Fisherman and Shark are there in the flip
✅ Flip is logical, it can be solved easily
✅ The flip does not contain any letters or words that reveal the keywords of the flip or explain the story. Which means flip is clear internationally in all languages
✅ The pictures are of a good size, they will be clearly visible to distinguish the parts of the story
✅ The flip is mixed well so the story on the other side doesn't make much sense
Let's move on by pressing the "Submit" button. Wait a minute for the flip to be saved to the idena network. The Idena App will now show you in the task that you need to make 2 more flips.
Now we need to make 2 more flips. Feel free to go through all the word pairs to find the easiest remaining word pairs to make good flips with.
As a "Newbie", you can make exactly 3 flips. Over time, as you reach new statuses of your Iden identity, as "Verified" you will be able to make 4 flips (3 mandatory and 1 bonus), "Human" can make 5 flips (3 mandatory and 2 bonus). You get a reward for every bonus flip you make, but also if you force them for more rewards and don't make a good flip, you risk getting your flip reported and losing all the validation reward.
Depending on the number of coins locked in your stake, rewards for fourth and fifth flips can be quite big.

So what is happening in the flip above? Who knows, is it a snake which is acending and becoming a dragon by training woleyball? What's with the floating stones? |
Flip above is clear example where person got words Cowboy and Cheese and created two story flip which does not make any sense. |
